2. Application qualifications

Must be a privately-financed non-Japanese foreign student

Applicants must have taken either the First Round (given in June) or the Second Round (given in November) of the 'Examination for Foreign Students in Japan' administered the Japan Student Assistance Organization, an independent government body, and must have achieved a score at or above the following set number:

Lower level doctor's course (master's course)

  • Course time period is 2 years
  • Call for applications sent out in June, proficiency examination held in September
  • A certificate of proficiency in Japanese language (a certificate demonstrating that the applicant has acquired a level of Japanese sufficient for university work)

Upper level doctor's course (Ph. D. program)

  • Applicants must have received or be scheduled to receive a degree the equivalent of a master's degree at either a Japanese or foreign university
  • Calls for applications will be sent out in November, the proficiency examination will be given in February
  • A certificate of proficiency in Japanese language (a certificate demonstrating that the applicant has acquired a level of Japanese sufficient for university work)

3. Scholarship System

There are many scholarships, beginning with nationally-funded foreign student scholarships, that all foreign students can apply for at present. In applying for scholarships sponsored by the university, it is necessary to submit the form 'Form for Scholarship Applications' (Kakushuu shougakkin kibou chousho).
